Allow user to cancel recording

Right now, once the user starts to record, deleting the file will immediately start a new recording. What if the person changes his mind and wishes to email instead? There's no option to cancel.

Hi Callie, if I understand your request correctly, there's actually nothing to cancel. The recording is stored only on the user's device until they click send. So if they decide to email instead, they just don't click send - then as soon as they close their browser the recording is permanently gone. Does that answer your point, or are you looking for something different?

Bernie Klein: hi Bernie, sorry! I think I didn’t phrase it clearly. What I meant is, it’s not obvious, so for older, less tech savvy users, they may think that there’s no way to cancel because it’s not stated. Please see the attached images:
In the first image, after the user finishes the recording, the choices are either to: proceed or to trash right?
But if the user clicks “trash”, he is immediately brought to the recording page again (image 2)
Since there isn’t a button that states something along the lines of “cancel recording”, the user is kinda stuck between re-recording or proceed. Unless he knows that he can “escape” from the cycle simply by clicking outside of the box :D
You get what I mean? Hahaha not sure if I’m the only one who received such feedback though.. cos most of my target users are in their late forties and above

Thanks for the further explanation Callie Chen, understand the confusion better now.
For "cancel", would having a close button (an X) in top right of the recorder be clear enough?
And perhaps we've picked the wrong icon for "Record again" as you're right, when someone sees the bin there, they might click it aiming to just delete the recording (whereas the intended function is recording again - deleting is just a side-effect).
Would the icon attached be clearer, perhaps with "Record again" text next to it?

Bernie Klein: YEAH! I definitely think so! If the (X) is clearly indicated, that would be awesome. Because based on past experience, some of my older users have poor eyesight and when the (x) is not obvious (for eg, very light grey against a white background or icons with very thin lines), it's difficult for them to locate it. Thanks for taking my suggestion into your consideration. Much appreciated!
